Why aren’t spring assisted knives as illegal as switchblades?

January 23rd, 2010

I find that they can open as fast as/as easily as switchblades, but why aren’t they as harshly regulated? I mean, I have to go through so much more trouble getting a tiny italian stiletto switchblade than a gigantic spring assist knife

Are assisted opening knives (specifically Kershaw brand) illegal in Israel?

January 16th, 2010

I am traveling to Israel at the end of this week, and wish to carry a Kershaw Blur 1670 for protection and as a tool, as I will be digging on an archeology site. From my research, I haven’t found any relevant information to assisted opening knives’ legality (or illegality) in Israel anywhere on the internet. I would of course be placing the knife in my checked luggage, right next to a Marshalltown digging trowel (in an attempt to make it look less suspicious). However, the knife is my friend’s, and if it will be confiscated, I’d rather not have to buy him a new one, so the risk to take it is more complex. I fully expect to have all of my luggage searched, along with my companions and their luggage as well, but have nothing to hide. I should also mention that I am a 20 year old male, and will have my Eagle Scout rank certification card in my wallet in a perhaps vain attempt to again, not appear as a threat. Will this have any effect? Can anyone please shed some light on this situation for me? Responses ASAP would be great! Thanks.

Is it Illegal to carry around a assisted opening knife in Pennsylvania?

January 13th, 2010

I am looking to buy a Smith&Wesson BLACK OP Assisted Opening SWAT Knife (see link) and was curious so I looked up the law for PA (see second link). I was completly confused as it seems that they say it is illegal, but you can still carry a knife, a complet contradiction right? Anyway I was wondering if someone could decode it for me and tell me what it is saying in layman terms. Also could you tell me if it is illegal to carry around this knife in PA. Thanks guys.
